Description

The Kapok is a ceramic ceiling light with a wide, shallow shade whose rim rises and falls in soft ruffles all the way round. The shade carries a marbled glaze, chalky white with drifting grey veins, and no two angles look quite the same as the light moves across it. A round brass ceiling plate and a short stem hold the shade close to the ceiling. A single lampholder sits at its centre, so the bulb hangs just beneath the ceramic, open to view. It is 10cm tall and 27cm across. Bulbs are sold separately: it takes one E27 bulb, up to 5W per bulb.

Because it sits so close to the ceiling, the Kapok works well where a pendant would hang too low: a hallway, a landing, a bedroom, a study or a cottage room with a low ceiling. The wavy ceramic shade softens a plain ceiling and pairs naturally with painted wood, linen and stone floors. The metalwork comes in your choice of finish: Antique Brass, Antique Silver, Matt Black, Polished Brass, Polished Copper and Satin Brass. Matt Black gives a crisp outline against the pale glaze, the antique finishes suit an older house, and the polished and satin finishes bring a brighter warmth. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

Every Kapok is made to order for you in Ireland, from brass and ceramic, and the Matt Black finish is painted in RAL 9005. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase; bulbs are not covered. This is a mains fitting for a qualified electrician to install. Choose the finish that matches your switch plates or door handles, and the Kapok will sit easily with them overhead.
