Description

The Kando M/40 is a table lamp that casts a soft, even glow through a pleated shade of Cream Translucent Ribbon, held inside an open frame of teak wood with a brown structure. The cylinder of ribbon sits between three upright teak posts, braced at the foot and at the top by three short arms, so the lamp has the look of a small lantern. It is 40cm tall and 22.5cm across, and its integrated LED gives 363lm of light: a gentle pool around the lamp rather than a bright working light.

We think it suits a living room or a bedroom best. On a bedside table it gives enough light to wind down by, and in a living room it sits well on a console, a sideboard or a low table beside a sofa, adding a little warmth to a corner in the evening. Because the frame is open on every side, the lamp looks just as good from behind as from the front, so it can stand in the middle of a room as easily as against a wall. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only.

The lamp is made from aluminium, teak wood, ribbon and polycarbonate. The ribbon is pleated all the way round the shade, which softens the light as it passes through, and the teak frame lifts the shade clear of the surface it stands on, so the glow spreads onto the table as well as outwards. The light source is an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or change, and it runs on mains power at 230V. There is nothing else to buy separately: the frame, the shade and the light source come together as one lamp, ready to bring a quiet glow to a shelf, a desk or a bedside.
