Description

The Kamarne is a set of three round recessed LED downlights in white, each with an aluminium body and a tilting centre, so you can angle the beam rather than only lighting the floor. Each light is 8.8cm across, needs a 6.8cm cut-out in the ceiling and a recess depth of 4.2cm, a useful figure where the void behind the ceiling is shallow. The light source is integrated LED, at 4.9W and 440lm per light, and it is dimmable. They are rated IP20, which settles where they belong: indoors and dry, so living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and kitchens, but never a bathroom or anywhere outdoors.

Because each head tilts, you can wash light across a wall, pick out a picture or a shelf, or aim it into a dark corner of the room. The smart side is where this set earns its place. From the app you can dim the lights, move the white from a warm 2700K to a crisp 6500K, and switch to RGB colour when you want something more playful. Warm white suits a bedroom or a living room in the evening, cooler white helps over a kitchen worktop or a desk, and colour comes into its own for a party or a film night. If you prefer a handset to a phone, they also work with a remote control, sold separately.

The aluminium body carries a clean white trim that sits neatly against a white ceiling, so the lights look tidy even when unlit. There is no switch on the light itself; it is switched at the wall, with dimming and colour handled from the app. As a mains light wired into the ceiling, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Because all three share one cut-out size and one recess depth, planning an even row across a ceiling is straightforward.
