Description

The Kamarne is a set of three square recessed downlights in white. Each has an aluminium body and a round lens set into a flat frame 8.8cm along each side. The light comes from a built-in LED rather than a bulb. Each downlight is rated at 4.8W and gives 450lm at 2700K, a warm white that sits comfortably in a living room or bedroom in the evening. They carry an IP20 rating, which settles where they belong: indoors, in dry rooms, and never in a bathroom, a shower area or outside.

The round lens tilts within its square frame, so each downlight can be angled off the vertical. You can wash light across a row of pictures, pick out a shelf or bring a little more light to a reading chair rather than flooding the whole floor. Three to a set makes it easy to light a run along a bulkhead, a hallway ceiling or a kitchen dining area in one go. We like the square trim in rooms with crisp lines and plain plaster, and the white finish all but disappears against a white ceiling.

Each downlight needs a 6.8cm hole in the ceiling and 4.2cm of depth behind it, a shallow recess that helps where the space above the ceiling is tight. Two sprung clips on each one hold it against the ceiling once it is in place. The downlights run on 220-240V mains and are dimmable. They have no switch of their own, so they come on and off from the wall switch. As a wired-in light, they are installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a PDF download. The set weighs 0.57KG packed. If you are replacing older downlights, we suggest measuring the existing holes against that 6.8cm cut-out first.
