Description

The Kalique is a hand-blown glass pendant whose smoke shade is a rounded, near-spherical globe hung from a slim clear cable and a chromed ceiling cap. The glass is double-blown, with a satin white inner diffuser inside a smoke outer, so it gives a soft, rounded glow rather than a hard beam. The mirrored smoke outer holds the light in more tightly, so lit it reads as a soft, smoky glow with a faint metallic sheen off the surface. Unlit, the metallised smoke glass reads as a dark, mirror-finish globe that reflects the room around it.

It takes one E27 bulb, so you set the brightness and warmth by the lamp you fit; we would suggest an E27 globe LED at 3000K to keep the light warm and the shape of the shade filled. At 280mm across it is the larger globe in the range, big enough to hang singly as a clear round shape over a dining table, a kitchen island or a hallway. The round rose sits flush to the ceiling on a magnetic fixing, and the clear cable keeps the drop visually light.

The shade is borosilicate glass and the cap is chromed metal, on a clear PVC cable. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms and is Class II, so it needs no earth. The bulb is not included, so we would fit an E27 globe lamp to suit the room, and have an electrician make the connection.

What kind of light does the Kalique give?

A restrained, smoky glow. The smoke outer glass is metallised, so it mirrors its surroundings and holds the light in more tightly than a plain tint, while the satin white inner diffuser keeps the E27 source soft behind it.

Does it come with a bulb?

No, the bulb is not included. It takes one E27 lamp, so you can choose the brightness and warmth. We would suggest an E27 globe LED at around 3000K to keep the light warm and fill the round shade evenly.

Is it dimmable?

The pendant has no driver or dimmer of its own, so dimming depends on the bulb fitted. With a dimmable E27 lamp on a compatible dimmer the light can be lowered.

How big is it and where does it suit?

The globe is 280mm across, the larger of the two sizes. It suits hanging singly over a dining table or kitchen island, or as a round feature in a hallway or living room.
