Description

The Jornenne is a linear pendant light in black steel: a long, slim bar carrying six cylindrical spotlights, hung on two fine suspension lines from a narrow rectangular ceiling canopy. It is 116cm long and 19cm wide, with an overall height of 110cm. Each of the six heads takes an E14 bulb of up to 25W, and the bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour of light and the brightness that suit your room. It is rated IP20, which means it belongs indoors in a dry room, well away from bathrooms and steamy corners.

Its long, straight line is made for a dining table, and that is where we think it works best: six pools of light spread along the whole table rather than one bright patch in the middle. It also suits a kitchen island or a breakfast bar, anywhere a single pendant would leave the ends of a long surface in shadow. Because each spotlight angles on its own, you can aim a pair straight down at the table and turn another towards a picture on the wall, so one fitting does the work of several. The black finish sits easily against pale walls and warm wood alike.

The body is steel finished in black, and each spotlight is an open-ended cylinder that sits the bulb well back within the shade, so from the table you see the glow rather than the bare bulb. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, and as a wired-in mains light it is installed by a qualified electrician. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz and weighs 4.135KG packed. The installation instructions are available as a download. One practical tip from us: fit six matching E14 bulbs of the same colour and wattage, because a matched set gives the most even line of light along the bar.
