Description

Three lengths of cotton velvet ribbon in merlot. Each one is cut by hand and left with a raw edge rather than hemmed, so the cut sides fray softly along their length. The fraying is deliberate: it is the finish the ribbon is made to have, not something that happens to it later. The velvet is densely woven, and the pile is what carries the depth of the colour.

Ribbon of this kind goes round a gift, through a wreath or along a garland. The set is made to come out again year after year rather than be cut up and thrown away, and it arrives in a box that it can be kept in, stored flat or loosely rolled. Jirani is made in two other colours as well, moss and cinnamon, so a tree or a table can carry more than one.
