Description

A candle bulb is the shape most chandeliers, wall lights and small pendant fittings were designed around, and this one pairs that familiar tapered form with an E14 small Edison screw cap. It draws 5.5W and returns 470 lumens, which the pack rates as the equivalent of a 40W incandescent candle. The light is 3000K warm white, a soft yellow toned white rather than a crisp one. The body is plain white with a diffused finish, so light spreads evenly and single diodes do not show through a thin shade. Four bulbs come in the box.

E14 is the smaller of the two screw caps in common use in British homes, and it is easily confused with the larger E27. Take the old bulb out before you order: the E14 thread measures about 14mm across. Warm white at 3000K suits the places a candle bulb usually lives, whether that is a dining room chandelier, a pair of bedroom wall lights or a hallway fitting left on in the evening. It sits close in tone to the halogen candles most people are replacing, so a multi arm fitting will not look patchy if you swap the bulbs over a few at a time.

These are not dimmable. If the old bulb has a screw thread roughly 14mm across it is an E14, also written SES, and this one will fit. The wider 27mm thread is an E27 and needs a different bulb.

Is 470 lumens enough to replace my old 40W candle bulb?

The pack rates this 5.5W bulb as a 40W replacement, so a five arm fitting should give you about the light you had before while drawing far less power.

Can I put these on a dimmer switch?

No, they are not dimmable. On a dimmer circuit they can flicker, buzz or fail early, so either wind the dial fully up and leave it or change to a plain switch.
