B22 (BC) LED Golf Bulb 4.9W 470lm Non-Dimmable - Daylight 6500K

This is a golf ball bulb on a B22 bayonet cap, the push and twist fitting used by most UK table lamps, pendants and ceiling roses. It draws 4.9W and puts out 470 lumens, which the pack rates as a 40W replacement, and the light it gives is daylight white at 6500K. A golf bulb is the small round one, noticeably shorter than a standard GLS, so it sits neatly inside half shades and small glass fittings where a full size bulb would fill the space or show below the rim.

6500K is the coolest of the common white tones, much closer to bright midday light than to candlelight. It keeps whites looking white and blues and greens crisp, which makes it a working light: a desk or craft lamp, a utility room, a garage, a landing or hallway where you want to see the floor and the stairs clearly. The white diffuser spreads the output over a 180 degree beam, so light falls across the room rather than in a tight pool. If you are lighting a sitting room for the evening instead, warm white will feel kinder, and we list the same golf shape on B22 in warm white 3000K and cool white 4000K, with a B15 small bayonet version in warm white as well.

This one is not dimmable, so keep it on a standard on and off switch; fitted to a dimmer circuit an LED that is not built for it can flicker, buzz or fail early. It carries an IP20 rating, which means indoor dry positions only, and an F on the energy label. The pack prints a 10,000 hour life, up to 10 years. Will this fit my existing lamp?

It takes a B22 bayonet holder, the type with two small pins that you push in and turn a quarter turn. If your old bulb has a screw thread rather than pins, that is an Edison cap and this one will not fit.

How bright is 470 lumens in practice?

The pack rates it as a 40W replacement, so expect the output of an old 40W filament bulb. It is enough for a bedside or table lamp, and two or three in a multi arm pendant will light a small room.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification gives dimming as No, so use it on a standard on and off switch. An LED not built for dimming can flicker, buzz or fail early on a dimmer circuit.

What does 6500K daylight look like beside my other bulbs?

It reads as a crisp blue white rather than a yellow glow. Mixing it in one room with 2700K or 3000K bulbs looks mismatched, so it is worth changing a whole fitting at once.

Will it fit inside a small shade or a closed glass?

The pack gives the bulb as 45mm across and 80mm long, so measure the gap between your lamp holder and the shade rim before ordering if the fitting is a tight one.

Does it need time to warm up?

No. LEDs reach full output the moment you switch them on, so there is none of the slow brightening you may remember from older energy saving bulbs.
