Description

The JCB 4.9W E27 LED GLS bulb delivers 470 lumens of 6500K daylight white light whilst using 88% less energy than the 40W incandescent bulb it replaces. The standard E27 Edison screw base fits most table lamps, pendant fittings and ceiling lights designed for traditional bulbs, and the classic GLS (general lighting service) shape ensures it sits correctly within shades and diffusers designed for incandescent bulbs.

Designed for utility areas, garages, workshops, kitchens and bathrooms where bright, cool-toned light is needed, the 6500K colour temperature mimics natural daylight and provides high contrast for task work. The 180-degree beam angle spreads light evenly across a room rather than concentrating it in a spotlight effect, making the bulb suitable for general ambient lighting as well as task applications. The bulb is non-dimmable and operates on standard 220-240V mains.

At 110mm tall and 60mm diameter, the bulb matches the size of a traditional 40W GLS incandescent, so it fits within the same physical envelope in existing lamp holders and shades. The frosted polycarbonate outer diffuses the LED elements inside, giving a uniform glow rather than visible point-sources. JCB rates the bulb for up to 10,000 hours of use, which translates to approximately 10 years at 3 hours per day.

What is 6500K daylight white used for?

6500K is a cool, blue-toned white that mimics natural daylight at midday. It provides high contrast and colour accuracy, making it suitable for task areas like workshops, garages, kitchens and bathrooms where bright, clear light is needed. It is less comfortable for living rooms and bedrooms, where warmer 2700K-3000K tones are typically preferred.

Can this bulb be used in enclosed fittings?

Yes. The bulb operates within a safe temperature range and can be used in fully enclosed pendant shades, ceiling fittings and table lamp bases. Ensure adequate ventilation in very small or tightly sealed enclosures to maximise lifespan.

Is it dimmable?

No. This bulb is not compatible with dimmer switches. Attempting to use it with a dimmer may cause flickering, reduced lifespan or failure. If dimming is required, select a dedicated dimmable LED bulb.
