Description
The Iya tallboy is a chest of six drawers in reclaimed wood, 136cm tall and only 64cm wide. The drawers run the same depth from top to bottom, each with a single dark iron bar handle across the centre, and the carcass stands on square corner legs that lift it clear of the floor. The timber keeps its old surface, so knots, splits and nail holes run through the fronts and the sides.
This is the narrow chest of the Iya range, for a wall where a wide one will not go. At 136cm the top stands above waist height, high enough for a lamp and a few small things rather than a surface to sit at. It weighs 77.3kg, so it takes two people to move and wants a level floor once it is there.
The wood is reclaimed: the timbers once formed the ceiling beams of traditional Indian houses, and each board is picked for its grain and its wear before it is cut. The drawers are dovetailed at the corners. The Iya range also holds chests of drawers in a small and a large width, a bedside table, a wardrobe, and beds in King and Super King.

Frequently Asked
How many drawers are there?
Six, all the same depth.
How big is it?
136cm tall, 64cm wide and 52cm deep. It weighs 77.3kg.
What is the reclaimed wood?
Timber that has had a life before this one. Here it came from the ceiling beams of traditional Indian houses, which is where the old marks and nail holes come from.
Will every chest look the same?
Not exactly. Every board is different, so grain, tone and the old marks vary from chest to chest.
How is it looked after?
Wipe the surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth, always along the grain. Mild soap and water can be used sparingly. Keep it out of strong direct sunlight and away from extremes of heat and humidity, and do not leave rubber or plastic standing on the wood.
