Description
The Knightsbridge OP21 is a 20AX 1-gang retractive switch built into a weatherproof IP66-rated polycarbonate enclosure in matt black. The switch returns to its off position after being pressed, making it suitable for momentary-contact applications such as electric gate controls, garage door openers, security system triggers and doorbell circuits. A blue LED indicator sits above the large circular rocker switch, providing location visibility in low light and activity confirmation when the switch is pressed.
Designed for outdoor installation where water ingress and impact resistance are required, the switch carries an IP66 rating (protected against heavy jets of water from any direction) and an IK06 impact rating (protected against 1 joule impacts). The 90mm square enclosure mounts directly to walls, gate posts, garage door frames and external surfaces using the four corner fixing holes. Multiple 20mm cable entry/exit points around the enclosure allow cables to enter from the most convenient direction for the installation.
The polycarbonate construction resists UV degradation and temperature extremes better than standard ABS plastic, maintaining structural integrity and finish over years of outdoor exposure. The 20AX rating handles loads up to 4,600W on 230V circuits, making it suitable for controlling higher-draw devices such as motorised gates and industrial door mechanisms. The retractive function means the switch must be held down to maintain contact, returning to the open position when released — this is the standard requirement for gate and garage door controls to prevent accidental sustained activation.

Frequently Asked
What does retractive mean?
A retractive switch returns to the off position automatically when you release it, unlike a standard toggle switch that stays in position. This makes it suitable for gate controls, garage doors and security triggers where you need momentary contact rather than latching operation.
Can this be used in the rain?
Yes. The IP66 rating means the switch is protected against heavy water jets from any direction and is suitable for permanent outdoor installation exposed to rain, snow and hose-down cleaning.
What is the blue LED for?
The blue LED serves two functions: it provides location visibility in low light so you can find the switch at night, and it illuminates when the switch is pressed to confirm the circuit has been activated.
What load can it handle?
The 20AX rating allows the switch to handle up to 4,600W on a 230V circuit. This is sufficient for motorised gates, garage door openers and most outdoor security lighting circuits.
