Description

The Indigo Drop is a ceramic jug 15cm high, straight-sided and narrow, with a pulled spout and a full loop handle. The clay is cream and left plain over the lower two thirds. The top third carries the drop pattern the range is named for: staggered rows of painted indigo teardrops, packed tight at the rim and thinning out as they run down the body, so the blue fades away rather than stopping on a line.

It holds 500ml, which suits milk or cream at breakfast and afternoon tea rather than water at a dinner table. The straight sides mean it takes up very little room on a tray beside cups, and the handle is a full loop, so a whole hand goes round it rather than two fingers. It is food safe.

The jug is ceramic, handmade in Vietnam and hand-painted there drop by drop, so the spacing of the pattern and the depth of the blue vary from one jug to the next. The Indigo Drop range runs across a whole table, to dinner and side plates, cereal, pasta and serving bowls, mugs, teapots, a cup and saucer, egg cups, a butter dish and a twelve-piece dinnerware set. This is the smaller of the two jugs.
