Description

A long narrow bench in reclaimed wood, 120cm across and 28cm deep, standing 50cm high. The top is a single board, planed flat and left with its splits, knots and old fixing holes showing. Four legs splay out from under it, braced by a short stretcher at each end and one long rail running between them. The wood is pale and weathered, going grey where it was exposed and warmer where it has been planed back.

At 28cm deep this is a bench for perching on rather than settling into, which is what makes it work in a hallway, at the foot of a bed, on a landing or against a kitchen wall where a chair would be in the way. 120cm takes two people side by side, or one person and a bag. Indoor use only.

The wood is reclaimed. Every piece began as a panel on the side of an Indian truck and has been cut, carved and assembled by hand into furniture, so the tone, the roughness and the run of the splits differ from bench to bench. The Ibo range runs to tables, cabinets, shelves and stools in the same wood.
