Description

The Ibo is a rectangular coffee table, 120cm by 80cm and 45cm high, built from reclaimed wood. The top is laid up from planks, the four legs are plain square posts, and a stretcher runs between them on all four sides close to the floor. The boards are pale and weathered, and the knots, the splits along the grain and the marks left by the wood in its earlier use are all still in the surface.

At 120cm by 80cm this is a large coffee table and it wants a room to match. The stretcher runs low round all four sides, so a basket or a tray cannot be pushed underneath and the space beneath it stays open only in the middle. It goes in front of a long sofa. It weighs 33kg, so it is placed once rather than moved about.

The wood is reclaimed. These boards travelled on the outside of Indian trucks before they were taken apart and re-purposed, which is why the tone shifts from plank to plank and the surface is rough in places. No two tables come out alike. Indoor use only. The Ibo range runs across side tables, consoles, shelves, sideboards and cabinets in the same wood.
