Description

A console table in reclaimed wood, 170cm long, 38cm deep and 84cm high, with four drawers across the front, each with a cast metal drop handle, and a shelf running below them. Each drawer measures 31cm wide and 28cm from front to back, and is 8cm deep inside. The lower shelf sits 48cm from the floor.

One hundred and seventy centimetres is long for a console, and that length is what makes room for four drawers rather than two. Thirty eight centimetres of depth keeps it flat against a hallway wall without narrowing the way past. Drawers 8cm deep take keys, post, gloves and the other flat things that otherwise collect on the top, and the shelf at 48cm leaves room for baskets or a pair of boots underneath. At 84cm the top is worked at standing height.

The wood is reclaimed. Each panel began as the side of an Indian truck, so the timber arrives already weathered and keeps its old grain, its knots and its splits instead of being worked back to something even. The tables are put together by hand and no two carry the same marks.
