Description

The Huevo is a 5-light outdoor semi-flush ceiling light built around five smooth opal white glass domes arranged in an asymmetric organic cluster on a polished chrome circular plate. Each dome houses a single E27 bulb (sold separately), with the opal glass diffusing the light in all directions. The IP44 rating means the fitting is protected against water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for covered outdoor areas.

Designed for covered porches, pergolas, garden room ceilings and terrace ceilings where overhead weather protection exists, the Huevo provides ambient light across a 4-6m² area depending on bulb choice. The 200mm drop from ceiling to lowest point of the fitting suits standard 2.4m ceiling heights without causing head clearance issues. The polished chrome plate reflects surrounding light and adds a modern metallic accent that pairs well with outdoor furniture in steel, aluminium or timber.

The five opal domes sit at slightly different heights and angles on the chrome plate, giving the fitting a sculptural quality when viewed from below. The overall footprint is 650mm x 570mm, which sits comfortably on a typical porch ceiling or pergola beam span without dominating the space. The glass is thick-walled opal white, not frosted clear, so the bulb filaments are completely hidden when lit and the light output is soft rather than directional.

Dimmer compatibility depends on the bulbs used, pairing the fitting with dimmable LED E27 bulbs and a compatible trailing-edge dimmer allows output control from full brightness to a low glow suitable for late-evening outdoor dining. The 5.8kg weight requires secure fixing into ceiling joists or a solid structure rather than plasterboard alone.

Can this be used in fully exposed outdoor areas?

No. The IP44 rating protects against water splashes but not direct rain or hose spray. The Huevo is designed for covered outdoor areas like porches, pergolas and gazebos where the ceiling provides overhead weather protection.

What bulbs does it take?

The fitting takes five E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair it with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for outdoor ambient lighting. Total wattage depends on bulb choice.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, if paired with dimmable E27 bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch. LED bulbs typically require a trailing-edge dimmer rather than the older leading-edge type used for halogen and incandescent bulbs.

What fixing is required?

The 5.8kg weight requires fixing into ceiling joists, solid timber or a suitable masonry ceiling. Plasterboard alone is not sufficient. Use cavity fixings rated for at least 10kg if joists cannot be located, or install a mounting plate between joists during construction.
