Horbanne Smoked Glass 5 Light Pendant - Black Nickel

The Horbanne is a five light cluster pendant: five ovoid shades of smoked glass hang at staggered heights from a round ceiling plate in a black nickel finish. The body is steel, and the glass carries a vaporised smoked tint, so each shade reads as a soft, see-through grey rather than solid black. It measures 200cm in overall height and 58cm across, a scale that fills a tall space. Each shade takes an E27 bulb of up to 60W, and the bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour and brightness of the light. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in a dry room.

Hung in a stairwell, a double-height hallway or over a dining table beneath a high ceiling, the staggered shades make a cascade of light that looks good from every angle. The smoked glass tempers the glow of the bulbs, which makes this pendant a good choice where you want atmosphere rather than a bright, flat wash. Black nickel and grey glass sit comfortably with dark painted walls, warm timber, marble or brass, and the monochrome palette suits a modern or an industrial scheme. Because each shade takes a standard E27 bulb, a filament bulb shows the glass at its best.

The ceiling plate and body are steel in the black nickel finish, and the five shades are glass, which wipes clean easily. There is no switch on the pendant itself: it is switched at the wall, so it runs from the light switch you already have. It works on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains power, and as a wired-in ceiling light it is installed by a qualified electrician. The installation instructions are available as a download, and the packed weight is 8.061KG. Buy five bulbs of up to 60W each alongside it, so the whole cluster lights evenly from the first evening.

Can the Horbanne pendant go in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which means it is meant for dry indoor rooms only, so we would keep it away from bathrooms, wet areas and anywhere outdoors.

Which bulbs does it take?

Each of the five shades takes an E27 bulb of up to 60W. Bulbs are not included, so you can choose the colour and style of light you prefer.

How big is the pendant?

It measures 200cm in overall height and 58cm across, so it suits a stairwell, a tall hallway or a room with a generous ceiling height.

What colour is the smoked glass?

The vaporised glass has a black-transparent smoked tint, a see-through grey that lets the bulb show while softening its glow.

Does it have its own switch?

No, there is no switch on the pendant itself. It is switched at the wall, so you turn it on and off with your existing light switch.

What finish is the ceiling plate?

The steel ceiling plate and body are in a black nickel finish, a dark, slightly reflective metal tone that pairs well with the smoked glass shades.
