Description
The Horatio is an oval bulkhead light which the maker says takes its influence from traditional maritime lighting: a solid brass body finished in white, with a clear ribbed glass diffuser set behind a substantial white cage. It measures 25cm long, 16cm wide and 16.5cm high and weighs 1.7KG, a compact but reassuringly solid size for the wall beside a door. It is rated IP64, which means it is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, so it lives outdoors in British weather all year round.
We would put it beside a front door or in a porch, along a garden wall, or on a boathouse or outbuilding where a nautical or industrial look sits right. The maker says the maritime influence shows in the range's materials, designs and names, and the Horatio wears it plainly in its cage, its ribbed glass and the four lugs at its top and bottom. The white finish keeps it looking fresh against painted render, pale brick or weatherboard, and it suits a coastal cottage as readily as a newer house that wants some working character. Because it is IP64, it can also go in a bathroom, and a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone.
Brass has long been chosen for boats because it stands up to salt air, and under the white finish the body is solid brass. The cable enters through a gland at the end or the rear, and a brass blank is included to take the place of the gland at whichever entry you leave unused. The maker says individual parts can be replaced if needed, which keeps the light working for longer. A mains light like this is installed by a qualified electrician. It takes one E27 (ES) lamp of up to 18W, and as the lamp is not included, it is worth choosing one at the same time as the light.

Frequently Asked
Can the Horatio bulkhead stay outside all year?
Yes. It is rated IP64, so it is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, which lets it live outdoors in British weather on a wall, porch or boathouse.
Does the bulkhead come with a bulb?
No, the lamp is not included. The light takes one E27 (ES) lamp with a maximum of 18W, so it is worth choosing one at the same time.
How big is the Horatio oval bulkhead?
It is 25cm long, 16cm wide and 16.5cm high, and it weighs 1.7KG, so it sits neatly on the wall beside a door without overwhelming it.
Is the white bulkhead metal or plastic?
The body is solid brass with a white finish, and the clear ribbed glass sits behind a white cage that guards the glass as well as giving the light its maritime look.
How does the cable enter the light?
The cable enters through a gland at the end or the rear, and a brass blank is included to take the place of the gland at the entry you leave unused.
