Description

The Hirbessa is a box-lantern outdoor wall light: a crisp black steel frame holding clear glass panels on the front and sides, with a single E27 lampholder at its centre. It measures 17cm wide, 26cm tall and 10cm deep, so it reads as a proper lantern without crowding a doorway. It takes an E27 bulb of up to 40W, and the bulb is not included, which leaves you free to choose the colour and brightness of light you want. With an IP44 rating it is protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors on a house wall.

Hang it beside a front door, either side of a garage, or on the wall of a patio where you sit out in the evening. The clear glass leaves the bulb on show, so if you choose a filament-style bulb it becomes part of the look, and the black frame suits brick, render and painted walls alike. Because it projects only 10cm from the wall, it sits neatly along a narrow path or side passage where a deeper lantern would catch shoulders and bags. Fit a matching pair to frame an entrance and the even rectangular shape makes them easy to align.

The body is steel with a black finish and the shade is clear glass, a pairing that keeps the look clean and simple. Glass wipes clean with a soft, damp cloth. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, so it runs from the switch you already have. It works on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains, and as a wired-in fitting it is installed by a qualified electrician.
