Description
The Hirana in the large size is a soft dome of linen and cotton drawn loosely over a cane frame. The fabric is left crumpled rather than pressed, and the panels are joined with the seam allowance on the outside so each seam runs as a frayed pale ridge from the top opening down to the rim. It measures 55cm tall and 60cm across, which makes it the widest shade in this set.
At 60cm it is a room sized object rather than a fitting, and the extra width changes what the frayed seams and the cane frame do: lit, the ribs show through the loose weave as fine dark lines across a much larger surface, so the whole shade reads as a lantern rather than a lampshade. It needs height above it and clear space around it, over a bed, a dining table or a stairwell, and it will crowd a standard hallway. It is an easy fit shade, so it goes onto a pendant that is already there or a pendant fitting bought separately, with no electrician needed. It is for ceiling use only and weighs 0.35kg.
The cover is a linen and cotton mix and the frame is natural cane. Each shade is shaped over its frame by hand, so the crumple and the fraying differ on every one. The Hirana range also holds a small size, 47cm tall and 50cm across. No flex, fitting or bulb is included.

Frequently Asked
How much room does it need?
60cm of width and 55cm of drop, plus clearance below. Over a bed or a dining table that works; in a standard hallway it does not.
Are the frayed seams a fault?
No. The seam allowance is left on the outside and allowed to fray, so it reads as a pale ridge down each panel, and no two shades fray alike.
Do I need an electrician?
No. It is an easy fit shade, so it goes onto a pendant already hanging or onto a pendant fitting bought separately.
Why can you see lines through it when it is lit?
Those are the cane ribs of the frame showing through the loose weave, and at this size they run right across the shade.
How do I care for it?
Handle it by the fitting rather than the fabric, and wipe it gently with a microfibre cloth or a duster.
