Description
The Hilorne is a linear pendant light that hangs three tall wire cage shades from a single black ceiling bar. Each shade is a dome-topped cylinder of slim steel rods, black on the front of every rod and copper on the inner side, so the cage reads dark across the room and gives a warm copper glint as you come closer. The fitting is 73cm long, 13cm wide and 110cm high overall, with a steel body in black and copper. Each shade takes an E27 bulb at up to 60W, and the bulbs are not included, so the colour and warmth of the light are your choice. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: dry rooms indoors.
A linear pendant earns its place over a long table, and the Hilorne lays three pools of light along a dining table rather than one bright spot in the centre. It suits open-plan dining spaces, breakfast tables and long desks in a home office, and because the cages are open wire, the fitting looks light even in a smaller room. Black and copper sit comfortably beside oak, walnut, cane and black metal chairs, which makes it an easy choice for an industrial or mid-century scheme.
The three shades hang from the black ceiling bar on slim black cords, with a black lampholder at the top of each cage. There is no switch on the fitting itself, so it runs from your wall switch on a 220-240V supply. As a mains light wired into the ceiling, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. For the best look, a clear E27 bulb lets the glow show through the bars, while a frosted one gives a softer light across the table.
