The Helena is a flush ceiling light built from three simple forms: a round brass ceiling plate, a brass ball beneath the plate, and a glass globe around the bulb. It comes with clear or frosted glass. With clear glass the bulb reads as a small bright point inside the globe; frosted glass softens the bulb into an even glow across the whole sphere. The metalwork comes in Satin Brass, Antique Brass, Antique Silver or Polished Brass, so you can match either glass to the finish that suits your room. The fitting is 25cm tall and 15cm across, and it takes one G9 bulb. Bulbs are sold separately: use a G9 LED bulb of up to 6.5W per bulb.

Because it sits close to the ceiling rather than hanging on a cable, it keeps the headroom clear in a narrow hall, and its 15cm width suits a tight space. Fit one over the front door or several in a line along a long hall for steady, even light from end to end. The frosted glass gives a soft, diffused light that is easy on the eyes when you come home late at night; the clear glass gives a brighter, crisper look and lets the metal ball catch the light. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

Each Helena is made to order in Ireland from brass and glass, with the metalwork in the finish you choose. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase, though bulbs are not covered. The light is wired in to the mains and needs a qualified electrician for installation. When you order, choose your finish and your glass together: any of the four finishes works with either globe.
