A ceiling plate does the quiet work behind a row of pendants, and this one keeps that work to a slim straight bar. It runs 900mm end to end with a very shallow profile, and four holes are set evenly along its length so the flexes drop in a tidy line rather than wandering across a room. The finish is satin black, a soft low-shine dark that settles into a pale ceiling as a thin shadow line and all but vanishes against a darker one. It holds no lamp of its own; the pendants hung from it do that.

We reach for one of these over a kitchen island, a long dining table or a run of worktop, where small pendants look better strung out in a row than gathered in a cluster. It earns its place in a narrow hallway too, or above a bar, giving a straight spine for shades of the same style to hang from at matching or staggered heights.
