Description
This wooden storage box is built like an old luggage chest, in deep black with bright gold edging along every edge and a gold cap on each corner. Across the front sit the four house crests, each picked out in gold with its name beneath: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. The lid carries a larger crest with the motto Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus curving beneath it, and the ends carry further gold emblems. Two gold latches close the front, giving it the look of a real Harry Potter trunk. The box is rectangular, 60cm wide, 30cm high and 30cm deep.
At 60cm wide it fits neatly at the foot of a bed, beneath a window or in the corner of a study, where it can keep spare blankets, books, board games and treasured odds and ends out of sight. Standing 30cm high and 30cm deep, it sits low against a wall without crowding the room, and the flat lid makes a handy place to set down a book or a folded throw. The black and gold works well beside dark wood furniture and rich colours, and it brings the feel of the Harry Potter stories into a bedroom, a reading nook or a games room without taking over the space.
The box is made of wood, and its lid is hinged along the back so it lifts right up to open the whole of the inside, which is black to match. The two latches on the front hold the lid shut when it is not in use. To keep it looking its best, dust it with a soft dry cloth and wipe away any marks with a cloth that is only slightly damp, then dry it straight away. Packed with a folded blanket or a few favourite books, it makes a generous gift that goes on being useful long after it is opened.
