Description

This GU10 to E27 lamp converter allows you to fit an E27 Edison screw bulb into a GU10 twist-lock bayonet fitting. The adaptor features a GU10 base with two spring-loaded pins that lock into a standard UK GU10 socket, and an internal E27 threaded socket that accepts standard screw-base bulbs up to 60W.

Designed for situations where you need to use an E27 bulb in a GU10 downlight fitting, the converter is commonly used in kitchens, bathrooms and commercial interiors where GU10 fittings are installed but a specific E27 bulb is preferred for colour temperature, beam angle or dimming compatibility. The converter must be screwed onto the bulb before inserting the combined unit into the ceiling fitting to ensure the GU10 pins engage correctly.

The white thermoplastic body measures 58mm in length and 36mm in diameter, adding approximately 58mm of drop below the ceiling plane when installed. The converter conforms to BS EN60238 standards for lamp holders and is rated for bulbs up to 60W, covering most standard LED and halogen E27 bulbs used in domestic and light commercial settings.

Frequently Asked

How is the converter fitted?

Screw the E27 bulb into the adaptor socket first, then insert the combined unit into the GU10 ceiling fitting by aligning the pins and twisting clockwise to lock. Do not attempt to fit the adaptor to the ceiling first and then screw in the bulb, as this can damage the fitting or prevent the pins from engaging correctly.

What bulb types can be used?

Any E27 screw-base bulb up to 60W can be used, including LED, halogen and CFL bulbs. Most users fit this with LED bulbs rated between 5-10W to stay well within the 60W load limit.

Does it work with dimmable bulbs?

The converter itself is passive and does not affect dimming. If the GU10 circuit is on a dimmer switch and you fit a dimmable E27 LED bulb, the combination should dim correctly. Non-dimmable bulbs will not dim and may flicker or fail on a dimmer circuit.

Can it be used in enclosed fittings?

The converter adds 58mm of length below the ceiling plane, so it may not fit inside shallow or enclosed downlight housings. Check the depth of the fitting before ordering to ensure the combined adaptor and bulb length will fit within the housing.
