Description

Grenoble drops thirteen long flat blades of natural Spanish alabaster from a single round brass canopy, each on its own fine cable and each set at a different height so the group falls as a slow spiral rather than a flat ring. The canopy is 750mm across and the overall drop is 2800mm. The blades are cut with angled ends, which keeps the silhouette from reading as a row of identical slats and gives the spiral a sense of movement as it descends.

Each blade carries its own LED at 12W, giving 156W across the fitting. Because the light sits behind the stone rather than below it, the blades read as thirteen lit panels rather than thirteen bulbs, and the heavy grey veining in this particular stone shows strongly against that backlight. The effect is closer to a hanging screen than a conventional chandelier, which is why it wants to be seen from more than one level.

The canopy and cables are brass and the internal structure is stainless steel, with every blade cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining differs from blade to blade and no two chandeliers are alike. At 2800mm this is one of the longest drops in the range and it is built for a stairwell, an atrium or a double height hall. Rated IP20 for interior use. The cables are dropped individually rather than cut to a pattern, so the spiral can be set tighter or looser on site to suit the well it hangs in.
