Description

The Grampian is a full-height Victorian-style lamp post cast in aluminium, finished in black, with a single lantern head at the top housing an E27 bulb fitting behind clear glass panels. The post stands approximately 2.1m tall from ground level, putting the lantern head at a height that lights pathways, driveways and front gardens without glare at eye level.

Designed for permanent outdoor installation in residential gardens, driveways and period properties, the lamp post requires a concrete foundation or in-ground sleeve to anchor the base securely. The E27 socket accepts standard Edison screw bulbs up to 60W — most installations use a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to replicate gas lamp warmth. The IP44 rating protects the electrical components inside the lantern head against rain and solid objects above 1mm, making it suitable for exposed UK weather.

The cast aluminium construction holds detail in the scrollwork bracket, fluted post sections and turned base, with a black powder-coat finish that resists corrosion better than painted mild steel. The clear glass panels allow maximum light output while the lantern frame casts shadow patterns on surrounding surfaces when lit. The post is supplied in sections for transport and bolts together on installation, with the wiring run concealed inside the hollow column.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does it take?

The lantern head takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. A warm-white LED bulb at 2700K-3000K provides the most period-appropriate light colour.

How is it installed?

The lamp post requires a concrete foundation or an in-ground mounting sleeve to anchor the base securely. Electrical supply is typically run underground in armoured cable or conduit to the base, then fed up through the hollow post to the lantern head. Installation by a qualified electrician is recommended.

What height is the lantern head?

The post stands approximately 2.1m tall from ground level to the top of the lantern finial, putting the light source at around 1.8-1.9m above ground — high enough to avoid glare at eye level but low enough to light paths and driveways effectively.

Can it be used in coastal areas?

The cast aluminium construction and powder-coat finish resist corrosion better than painted mild steel, making it suitable for most UK outdoor environments. In heavily salt-laden coastal areas, periodic checks and touch-ups of the finish will extend the lifespan.
