Description

The Gosmelle is a round recessed LED downlight with a black steel body and a white plastic diffuser, a compact fitting 8.6cm in diameter. Its bezel carries a fine textured black finish, so it reads as a crisp, dark ring against a pale ceiling. The LED is integrated, which means there is no separate bulb to buy or change, and it draws 2.7W to give 330 lumens of warm white light at 3000K. It is rated IP20, and that settles where it belongs: indoors, in rooms that stay dry.

We see it working hardest in hallways, landings, living rooms, bedrooms and studies, where a few set in a line give even, gentle light without a pendant hanging low. Run them along a corridor and they wash warm light down a wall of framed prints or family photographs, which is a good way to make a narrow space feel calmer and more finished. The black bezel suits a modern or monochrome scheme, while 3000K warm white keeps evenings relaxed. Because it needs only 2.6cm of recess depth, it is a sensible choice where the ceiling void is shallow.

The body is steel and the diffuser is plastic, so a soft, dry cloth is all it needs to stay clean; switch it off and let it cool first. It is not dimmable and has no switch of its own, so it is switched at the wall with an ordinary switch rather than a dimmer.
