Description

The Gosmelle is a square LED downlight with a slim steel frame in satin nickel and a white plastic diffuser that spreads an even glow across its whole face. It measures 39cm long and 39cm wide yet stands only 2.5cm high, so it sits neatly against the ceiling rather than hanging into the room. The LEDs are integrated, drawing 17.5W and giving 2,800lm, a generous amount of light for a single ceiling fitting, and there are no bulbs to buy or change. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in dry rooms, away from bathrooms and outdoor walls.

Because it is so shallow, the Gosmelle suits rooms where a pendant would feel crowded: a hallway, a landing, a kitchen, a home office or a bedroom with a lower ceiling. The colour temperature can be set to 2700K, 4000K or 6500K, so one fitting gives a warm, homely white in the evening, a crisp neutral white for cooking and reading, or a bright daylight white for a workspace. The brushed satin nickel frame has a soft metallic sheen that sits comfortably beside pale wood, white walls and brushed metal handles, without looking cold.

The body is steel, and steel is stiff and hard wearing, which suits a frame this slim; the diffuser is white plastic. There is no switch on the light itself, as it is switched at the wall, and it is not dimmable, so a standard wall switch is the right partner rather than a dimmer. It runs at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, carries energy class D and weighs 1.72KG packed. As a mains fitting wired into the ceiling, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download.
