Description

The Gosmelle is a square recessed LED downlight with a brushed satin nickel bezel framing a round white diffuser. The trim is 11.9cm long and 11.9cm wide, with softly rounded corners, and it sits close to the ceiling as a neat square of metal tone with a bright circle at its centre. Both the body and the diffuser are plastic, and it weighs 0.225KG packed. Inside is an integrated LED drawing 6.3W and giving 720lm, so there is no bulb to change. It is rated IP20, and that settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms away from splashing water.

We would put it in living rooms, hallways, landings, bedrooms and home offices, set out in rows or a grid wherever an even spread of light from the ceiling works better than a single pendant. The satin nickel trim suits rooms with clean lines and brushed metal details. The real gain is the choice of three colour temperatures, chosen at the light: a warm 2700K for a relaxed evening sitting room, a balanced 4000K for a kitchen worktop or a desk, and a crisp 6500K where you want a bright, daylight feel. One downlight can be matched to each room's purpose.

Since the colour temperature is set at the light, settle on the shade of white before it goes into the ceiling, and set every downlight in a room alike for an even look. It is not dimmable and has no switch of its own, so it is switched at the wall. It runs on mains power at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, and needs a 10.5cm cut-out with a recess depth of 4cm. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Check that there is 4cm of clear space above the ceiling before you order, and you will know whether it suits your room.
