Description

The Gosmelle is a recessed LED downlight with a square black trim framing a round white diffuser, a crisp graphic look that sits neatly in a plain ceiling. It is 16.6cm long and 16.6cm wide. The body is black plastic, the diffuser is white plastic, and the whole light weighs 0.36KG packed. Inside, integrated LEDs draw 10.5W and give out 1,200lm, a generous amount of light from one compact fitting. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms, and never outdoors or near water.

Because it sits recessed into the ceiling, it suits hallways, landings, living rooms, bedrooms and studies, where you want good light without a pendant hanging into the room. The black trim gives a clear outline against a white or pale ceiling, so a run of them reads as a deliberate design choice rather than a row of plain holes. It works well for anyone updating a room with a modern, monochrome scheme, or who simply wants a bright, tidy light that stays out of the way. Several fitted along a hallway or landing give a neat, ordered line of light.

There are three colour temperatures, chosen at the light itself: 2700K for a warm, homely white, 4000K for a crisper neutral white and 6500K for a cool, daylight-like white. Set it once to suit the room, warm for a bedroom or living room, cooler for a study or home office. It is not dimmable and has no switch of its own, so it works from an ordinary wall switch rather than a dimmer. It runs from the mains at 220-240V and needs a hole 15.5cm across in the ceiling, with 4cm of depth behind it, so it suits shallow ceiling voids. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download.
