Description

A coffee table 140cm long, 70cm deep and 45cm high, with a clear glass top set flush inside a slim metal frame. The four legs are round in section, swelling where they meet the frame and tapering to the floor, and one long rail runs between the two end cross rails at low level. The metal is not smooth: it dips and facets where the casting came out, and the antique brass finish picks those faces up at different strengths. The top is toughened glass.

At 140 by 70cm this is a full sized coffee table, and the glass top keeps it from closing off the floor underneath. Over a rug the pattern reads straight through the top and the frame draws a thin line round it. It stands 45cm high.

The base is aluminium, cast by the traditional sandcasting method: molten metal is poured into hand prepared sand moulds, and that is what leaves the raw, textured surface and the softly irregular patina. It is then finished in antique brass, so the frame has an organic shape and an uneven surface rather than a machined one. The Gilasi is also made as a pair of nesting side tables.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

140cm long, 70cm deep and 45cm high.

Is the glass toughened?

Yes. Toughened glass is used for added safety.

Why is the metal uneven?

The base is sandcast. Molten aluminium is poured into a hand prepared sand mould, and the process leaves a raw, textured surface and a softly irregular patina, so no two frames come out the same.

Is there a matching piece?

Yes. The Gilasi is also made as a pair of nesting side tables.

How do I look after it?

Wipe the surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth to remove dust and moisture. Do not put hot objects straight onto the glass, use coasters and mats, and take care with sharp objects such as cutlery and pens, which may score or scratch the surface.
