Description

Geode is a wall mirror 130cm high by 80cm wide, printed with the banded cross section of an agate: blue and dense at the foot, opening into fine crystal towards the middle, and clearing to plain mirror at the top. The bands are printed onto the silvered glass, so the pattern sits in the reflection rather than on a layer above it.

It suits a hallway, a bedroom or a bathroom, where it is rated to go, and it works where a plain mirror would be dull and a busy pattern would be too much, since two thirds of the surface is still mirror. It hangs in four directions: banded end down reads as a landscape, banded end up reads as weather. At 11kg and 2.5cm deep it is a one person lift that sits close to the wall, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble.

The mirror is printed and mirrored glass, frameless. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth rather than onto the glass. The blue is a cool blue rather than a warm one, so it sits against grey and white better than it does against cream, and the crystal detail only resolves close up, which is worth knowing when deciding how high to hang it. An agate section is a record of how the stone filled, band by band, and the print keeps that order rather than repeating a motif, so no two parts of the pattern are alike. Above the bands the glass is plain, which is what keeps it a mirror rather than a picture. Seven year warranty, made in Europe.
