Description

A serving bowl turned from mango wood, 25.5cm across and 9.5cm deep, with sides that slope steeply from a small base out to a wide rim. A band of etching is cut by hand around the edge, and because the cut goes through to lighter wood beneath it the band reads as a second tone rather than as a pattern. The interior is left smooth.

Nine and a half centimetres of depth at 25.5cm across holds a salad for four, or nuts and olives for a table, and the steep sides keep what is in it from spreading. At 0.635kg it passes down a table easily. It is food safe. The bowl is also made in a larger size.

The wood is mango, taken from trees felled once they have stopped fruiting, and the etching is cut by hand using traditional methods. The grain differs in every bowl, so the two tones fall differently too. A 30.5cm Gavivi bowl and a 35cm shallow Gavivi bowl are made as well, with two Gavivi stands.
