Description

This is a round recessed spot whose head retracts into the housing and swivels, so the beam can be aimed off vertical while the body stays tucked up into the ceiling line. The trim is matt white and the inside of the head is black, which keeps the lit source out of eye line once it is angled. Light comes from an integrated LED module of 12W at 4000K, a clean cool white, and the driver is supplied with it. It is not dimmable, so plan on plain switching.

Cool white of this sort earns its keep over kitchen worktops, in utility rooms, home offices, garages and hallways, where you want surfaces read clearly rather than softly. The swivel is the reason to pick it over a fixed downlight: angle a few towards cabinet fronts, a stair wall or pictures and leave the others pointing straight down for general light. We like it in rooms with a busy ceiling, where a track would sit too heavily. The cut-out is 95mm. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, well clear of showers, porches and anywhere the weather can reach.

The head turns within a slim white surround, and the matt finish holds reflections down so the ceiling stays quiet. Cleaning asks very little: switch off at the wall, give it time to cool, then wipe the visible trim and face with a dry cloth and leave the recess itself alone. The LED is built in, so there is no lamp to change across its life. It carries a three year warranty. We stock the same fitting in an all-black finish, in a smaller cut-out where spacing is tight, and in warmer colour temperatures and a lower wattage if you want something gentler in bedrooms and sitting rooms.
