Description

A retractable swivel head is what sets this one apart from a plain fixed downlight: the LED module sits back within the housing and tilts, so light can be aimed where it is wanted rather than dropped straight down. The body is finished in matt white with black around the aperture, which holds glare back and lets the fitting read quietly against a pale ceiling. It works to a 95mm cut-out, and the built-in LED draws 12W in a warm white tone. The driver is supplied with it, and output is fixed rather than dimmable.

This is a light for picking things out rather than washing a whole room evenly: over a kitchen worktop, along a hallway, above a run of open shelving, or on a picture. Because the head angles, you can put light on a surface and leave the rest of the room softer. We reach for it in schemes where the ceiling wants to stay plain and the light itself should do the work. The warm tone keeps living rooms and bedrooms comfortable, where a cooler white can feel a little clinical. It belongs in dry rooms indoors, away from splashing and steam.

Once the light has been switched off and left to cool, the painted rim and the face of the head take a soft dry cloth; avoid solvents and cream cleaners, which will dull a matt paint finish over time. It carries a three year warranty.
