G9 Floor Lamp 22cm Long - Gold

A slim gold upright with a single G9 capsule held at the head, this is a floor lamp for pooling light where you want it rather than washing a whole room. It stands a little over 1.4m, so the light sits above shoulder height when you are seated, and the span across the base and head is 41cm, keeping it close to the furniture it serves. A toggle switch on the body does the work, and with a compatible dimmer and lamp the output can be brought down. We would fit a warm LED capsule of up to 10W here.

It suits a reading chair, one end of a sofa, or a bedroom corner where a shaded lamp would look heavy. Because the footprint is narrow, it tucks in beside a side table without crowding it, and the tall stem lifts the light clear of a low table top. We reach for it in rooms that already have a central fitting and want a softer second layer for the evening, and in bedrooms where a table lamp would fill a small cabinet on its own. Keep it to dry rooms indoors: a landing or a study, not a bathroom or a porch.

The gold sits evenly over the stem and base, and the shape is plain enough to work with old furniture and new. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth, nothing abrasive and no polish, or the finish will dull. Switch off and let the head cool before you change the capsule. It carries a one year warranty. What lamp does it take?

One G9 capsule, up to 10W. An LED capsule is the sensible choice, and a warm white one keeps the light kind for a reading corner.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you pair a dimmable G9 lamp with a dimmer suited to it. On its own the lamp is switched by a toggle switch, with no dimming built in.

How tall is it, and how much floor does it take?

It stands 1400mm high, with a maximum width of 410mm and a depth of 220mm, so it slots neatly against a chair arm or beside a cabinet.

Is it steady enough for a busy room?

It weighs 3.1kg, which is enough to keep it planted, though like any tall slim lamp it is happier tucked beside furniture than in an open walkway.

How should I clean the gold finish?

A soft dry cloth is all it needs. Avoid metal polish, cream cleaners and damp cloths, as these can mark or wear the finish over time.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry rooms only, so a living room, bedroom, study or landing rather than a bathroom or anywhere sheltered outdoors.
