The Frolena is a linear pendant light with four egg-shaped smoked glass shades, each hanging on a slim black cord from a long chrome bar. The body is steel with a chrome finish, and the shades are vaporised glass in a black-transparent tone, so they look like mirrored smoke by day and let a soft glow through once the bulbs are lit. It measures 108cm long, 15cm wide and 110cm tall overall. Each shade takes an E27 bulb of up to 40W, four in all, and the bulbs are not included, so the colour and warmth of the light are your choice. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in a dry room.

Hung over a dining table, the four shades spread light along its whole length rather than gathering it in one spot. The smoked glass and chrome sit comfortably in a modern or neutral scheme, picking up grey, black and wood tones without competing with them. It works well over a long desk in a study too, or anywhere a row of light makes more sense than a single shade. Because the glass is tinted, the light it gives is gentle and atmospheric rather than bright, so for close tasks a clear bulb at the top of the 40W allowance is the sensible pick.
