Description

Frammenta stacks nine slabs of natural Spanish alabaster into a tall staggered column, each left with its broken edge intact and each fixed through its own small brass boss. The stones are 140mm deep and the column stands 780mm tall, which makes this the largest fitting in the range by a clear margin. The pieces step left and right as they climb rather than sitting on a common centre, so the silhouette wanders the way a split face of rock does.

An integrated LED behind each stone gives 32W in total, lighting them from the back so every fragment glows and each overlap throws a shadow across the one beneath it. At 780mm the column reads as a single lit seam running up the wall, which is what makes it useful on a full height panel, beside a chimney breast or in the well of a staircase where the eye travels upward. The light stays soft because it passes through the stone. Unlit the seam reads as a pale line of rock; lit, the veining comes up from inside every fragment.

The bosses and the concealed backplate are brass, and they are the only metal on show. Every fragment is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining, the translucency and the shape of the broken edge differ from piece to piece and the nine stones on one fitting will not match each other. The fitting is rated IP20 for interior use. Frammenta runs down through seven, five, three and two fragments to a single stone, so a hallway and the rooms off it can share one language.

Why is the edge of the stone rough?

That is deliberate. The perimeter is the natural broken edge of the alabaster block rather than a cut or polished line, which is what gives the range its name. It means the outline differs on every fragment.

How much wall does it need?

It stands 780mm tall and 140mm deep, which is the largest Frammenta by a clear margin. It suits a full height panel, a chimney breast or a stair well; on a short return wall the three or five fragment version sits more comfortably.

Does every fitting look the same?

No. Each fragment is natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining, the translucency and the shape of the broken edge are unique to the block it came from. The nine stones on one fitting will not match each other either.

Is it bright enough to light a room?

At 32W across nine stones it gives usable ambient light rather than accent light, and on a stair or in a hallway it can be the only fitting on the wall.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which covers dry interior locations only, so it should not be installed in a bathroom zone or anywhere it may meet moisture.
