Frammenta LED 3 Light Fragment Alabaster Wall Light - Brass

Frammenta stacks three slabs of natural Spanish alabaster one above the other, each left with its broken edge intact and each fixed through its own small brass boss. The stones are 130mm deep and the column stands 400mm tall. Nothing is squared off or polished into a frame; the perimeter of each piece is the edge the block came away with, so the outline differs from fragment to fragment and the fitting looks quarried rather than manufactured.

An integrated LED behind each stone gives 18W in total, lighting them from the back so the alabaster glows and each overlap reads as a shadow line down the column. Three fragments is the point where the fitting starts to work as a vertical, which is why it sits well beside a mirror, in the narrow return of a hallway or in a pair flanking a door. The light stays soft because it passes through the stone rather than out of an aperture, and because the fragments sit close to the wall it spills around their broken edges as well as through them.

The bosses and the concealed backplate are brass, and they are the only metal on show. Every fragment is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining, the translucency and the shape of the broken edge differ from piece to piece and the three stones on one fitting will not match each other. The fitting is rated IP20 for interior use. Frammenta runs from a single fragment up to nine, stacking the same stone into taller columns as the count rises.

Why is the edge of the stone rough?

That is deliberate. The perimeter is the natural broken edge of the alabaster block rather than a cut or polished line, which is what gives the range its name. It means the outline differs on every fragment.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

It is rated IP20, so it must sit outside the zones defined around a bath or shower in BS 7671. Our photograph shows it above a vanity, which is usually outside those zones, but positions vary and your electrician should confirm before installing.

Does every fitting look the same?

No. Each fragment is natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining, the translucency and the shape of the broken edge are unique to the block it came from. The three stones on one fitting will not match each other either.

How are the stones held?

Each fragment is fixed through a single small brass boss at its centre, onto a concealed brass backplate. The stones overlap slightly, which is what creates the shadow lines down the column.

Can I replace the LED?

No. The LED is integrated rather than a separate lamp, so there is no bulb to change and none is supplied.
