Description

Frammenta is a single slab of natural Spanish alabaster left with its broken edge intact, fixed to the wall through one small brass boss at its centre. The stone is 130mm deep and the fitting stands 250mm tall. Nothing is squared off or polished into a frame; the perimeter is the edge the block came away with, so the outline is different on every piece and the fitting looks quarried rather than manufactured.

An integrated LED sits behind the stone and draws 3W, lighting it from the back so the alabaster glows and throws a halo onto the wall around it. At this size it is an accent rather than a working light: it marks a stretch of wall, a chimney breast or the run of a corridor without trying to light the room. It is shown here on a pale plaster wall in a living room, above a sideboard, where the raw edge reads against the flat plaster behind it. Unlit it reads as a pale slab of stone; lit, the veining comes up from inside it.

The boss and the concealed backplate are brass, and they are the only metal on show. Every fragment is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining, the translucency and the shape of the broken edge differ from piece to piece and no two fittings are alike. The fitting is rated IP20 for interior use. Frammenta runs to two, three, five, seven and nine fragment versions in the same range, stacking the same stone into taller columns as the count rises.

Why is the edge of the stone rough?

That is deliberate. The perimeter is the natural broken edge of the alabaster block rather than a cut or polished line, which is what gives the range its name. It means the outline differs on every fitting.

Does every fitting look the same?

No. Each fragment is natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining, the translucency and the shape of the broken edge are unique to the block it came from.

How bright is it?

The integrated LED draws 3W and lights the stone from behind. It is an accent light that marks a stretch of wall and throws a halo onto the plaster; it is not intended to light a whole room.

Can I replace the LED?

No. The LED is integrated rather than a separate lamp, so there is no bulb to change and none is supplied.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which covers dry interior locations only, so it should not be installed in a bathroom zone or anywhere it may meet moisture.
