Description

The Flux is a ceiling suspension kit from Ideal Lux consisting of a matt black ceiling canopy, a polished stainless steel wall bracket, 5m of braided steel cable, and the fixings and hex keys needed to install pendant lights from a ceiling rose or suspend them from a wall. The kit allows pendant lights to be ceiling-mounted in the usual way, or suspended at an angle from a wall bracket where a ceiling fixing is not practical or where the design calls for a pendant to hang beside rather than above a surface.

Designed for residential and hospitality settings where pendant lights need to clear high ceilings or span large rooms, the 5m cable can be trimmed to the required drop during installation. The steel cable passes through the wall bracket's tensioning mechanism and is secured with a grub screw, then runs up to the ceiling canopy where it loops through a second anchor point. This configuration distributes the weight of the pendant across both the wall and ceiling fixing points, preventing sagging and keeping the cable taut.

The ceiling canopy measures 98mm at its longest dimension and projects 55mm from the ceiling. The wall bracket is polished stainless steel with a chrome-like finish that contrasts with the matt black canopy, adding a mixed-metal detail to the installation. The white finish mentioned in the product name refers to the cable sheathing or packaging — the canopy itself is matt black and the bracket is polished steel. All fixings, screws and two hex keys are included in the kit, so no additional tools are needed beyond a drill and screwdriver for the initial wall and ceiling preparation.

Can this kit support any pendant light?

The kit is designed for pendant lights with a separate canopy that can be removed to thread the cable through. It will not work with pendants where the cable is permanently attached to the shade or fitting. Check the maximum load rating against your pendant's weight before installation.

Is the 5m cable adjustable after installation?

The cable can be trimmed to the required drop during installation, but once the grub screw in the wall bracket is tightened and the ceiling anchor is set, the length is fixed. Plan the drop height before cutting the cable.

What fixings are needed for the wall and ceiling?

The kit includes screws and wall plugs for typical plasterboard and masonry surfaces. For hollow walls or high-load applications, additional heavy-duty fixings may be required depending on the pendant's weight and the wall structure.

What's the difference between this and a standard ceiling rose?

A standard ceiling rose supports the pendant's weight entirely from the ceiling. The Flux kit adds a wall bracket that shares the load and allows the pendant to be angled away from directly below the ceiling fixing point, creating an arc or diagonal suspension line.
