Description

The Flux is a ceiling suspension kit from Ideal Lux containing a 2m steel cable, a matt black ceiling plate with a central fixing point, a steel mounting bracket, two hex keys, two wall plugs, two screws and all the hardware needed to suspend pendant lights from standard ceiling joists or concrete. The ceiling plate measures 98mm long by 55mm projection and accepts the threaded steel cable which runs through the kit's components to support the pendant below.

Designed for pendant lights weighing up to approximately 5kg, the kit suits residential dining rooms, kitchen islands, hallways and commercial spaces where a pendant needs to hang from a ceiling without an existing rose or where the existing ceiling point needs reinforcing. The 2m cable length allows pendants to be hung at various drops depending on ceiling height, with excess cable coiled inside the ceiling void or cut to length during installation. The matt black finish matches contemporary, industrial and minimalist interiors without drawing attention to the fixing itself.

The steel cable passes through the ceiling plate and locks with a threaded collar, while the mounting bracket secures to the ceiling joist or concrete using the included screws and wall plugs. The hex keys allow adjustment of the cable tension and the locking collar once the pendant is at the desired height. All components are steel rather than plastic, providing load-bearing strength and heat resistance if used with high-wattage bulbs in the pendant below.

What weight can the kit support?

The steel cable and mounting bracket are designed to support pendant lights up to approximately 5kg. For heavier pendants or multi-light clusters, check with the pendant manufacturer's guidance or consult a qualified electrician before installation.

Can the cable be shortened?

Yes. The 2m cable can be cut to the desired length during installation if a shorter drop is needed. Excess cable can also be coiled inside the ceiling void if you want to retain the option to lengthen the drop later.

Is it suitable for plasterboard ceilings?

The mounting bracket must be fixed to a ceiling joist or solid substrate, not directly into plasterboard. If your ceiling is plasterboard over timber joists, locate the joist position and fix the bracket into the timber. For solid concrete ceilings, use the included wall plugs and screws.
