Description

The Florence is a round table lamp shade in white fabric measuring 360mm diameter and 230mm height. The cylindrical drum shape with gently curved top and bottom edges creates an even 360-degree light spread, softening the output from any E27 or B22 bulb up to 60W fitted inside the lamp base below.

Designed as a replacement shade for table lamps, desk lamps and bedside lamps with a standard shade carrier or harp fitting, the Florence suits both contemporary and traditional lamp bases. The 360mm diameter provides adequate coverage for a lamp base between 180-250mm wide without overwhelming smaller side tables. The white fabric diffuses light in all directions rather than directing it downwards, making it better suited to ambient lighting than task reading.

The shade is constructed from a white synthetic fabric stretched over a wire frame, giving a smooth surface without visible seams or pleats. At 1kg total weight the shade sits securely on most lamp bases without requiring additional counter-weighting. The white finish reflects and diffuses light efficiently, reducing harsh shadows and creating a softer overall glow in bedrooms, living rooms and hallways.

What lamp bases does this shade fit?

The Florence fits standard table lamp fittings with a shade carrier (spider) or harp attachment. The internal ring diameter accommodates most UK and European table lamp bases with E27 or B22 bulb holders. Measure your existing shade fitting before ordering to confirm compatibility.

What wattage bulb can be used?

The shade supports bulbs up to 60W. For safety and to prevent fabric discolouration over time, LED bulbs between 6-12W (equivalent to 40-75W traditional bulbs) are recommended. These provide adequate light output without generating excessive heat near the fabric.

Does the shade direct light downwards for reading?

No. The drum shape diffuses light evenly in all directions including upwards and sideways, creating ambient rather than focused task light. For reading light directed onto a book or desk surface, a conical or empire-shaped shade would be more appropriate.

How is the fabric cleaned?

Dust the shade regularly with a soft dry brush or lint roller. For marks, wipe gently with a barely-damp microfibre cloth, working from top to bottom. Do not saturate the fabric or use spray cleaners, as moisture can cause water marks or weaken the adhesive bonding the fabric to the frame.
