Description

The Firvette is a compact outdoor wall light: a fluted cylindrical head on a round wall plate, finished all over in black. The body is aluminium and the head holds a clear glass shade. It stands 12cm high and 6cm long, and comes 11cm out from the wall, so it sits neatly beside a door without crowding a narrow path. It takes a single GU10 bulb of up to 28W, which you choose yourself, as the bulb is not included. Its IP44 rating means it is protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors on a house wall.

We would put it by a front door as a porch light, along a side passage or beside a garage door, wherever you want light without a bulky lantern. It casts its light downwards, washing the wall beneath it rather than shining out across the garden. The ribbed head adds texture to a plain stretch of render, brick or timber cladding, and the black finish sits well against grey, white and natural wood alike. A pair either side of a doorway frames the entrance nicely. Because the bulb is your choice, you decide how warm or bright the light should be, from a gentle glow for evenings outside to a brighter light for finding your keys.

There is no switch on the fitting: it is switched at the wall, so you turn it on and off from a wall switch. Aluminium is lightweight and does not rust, which suits a fitting that faces the weather. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains, and as a wired-in light it is installed by a qualified electrician. The installation instructions come as a download, and packed, it weighs just 0.371KG.
