Description

This silver photo frame keeps a First Holy Communion close at hand, with a portrait window set beside a softly embossed figure of a praying girl. Across the top it reads MY FIRST HOLY COMMUNION, and beneath the girl a printed blessing in neat black lettering begins "May God bless you on your First Communion Day" and goes on to wish that the happiness of the celebration continues "as you begin a new life in Christ". A small chalice between two sprigs of leaves finishes the verse. The window takes a 6 x 4in photo, and the front is almost square, 19.2cm along its longer edge and 1.6cm deep, in a pale silver metallic effect finish.

It stands neatly on a bedroom shelf, a bedside table, a desk or a mantelpiece, with the photo window upright in portrait and the blessing easy to read at a glance. We think it makes a thoughtful Communion gift, ready to hold a portrait from church, a family picture taken afterwards or a favourite moment from the celebration. The pale silver tone is quiet and gentle, so it sits as comfortably in a calm living room as it does in a child's bedroom.

Turn it over and you will find a black backing with a stand, so the frame needs no wall, nails or hooks and simply stands on any flat surface. The praying girl is raised from the face of the frame, which gives the design a soft, tactile quality alongside the crisp black lettering and the little chalice motif. To keep it looking its best, dust the frame with a soft dry cloth and avoid harsh cleaners, which can dull a metallic effect finish or the printed words. Slip in your favourite photograph from the day before you wrap it, and it becomes a gift that is ready to stand on a shelf the moment it is opened.
