Description

The FireNova IC bracket is a steel mounting frame designed for Knightsbridge FireNova fixed and tilt downlights, allowing them to be installed beneath insulation layers while maintaining IC (insulation contact) safety rating. The bracket creates a protective void around the downlight fitting, preventing direct contact between insulation material and the heat-generating components of the lamp.

Designed for loft and ceiling installations where thermal insulation is laid directly above plasterboard ceilings, the bracket ensures compliance with Building Regulations thermal barrier requirements without requiring insulation to be cut away around each downlight. The steel construction withstands typical loft temperatures and supports downlights fitted with LED lamps up to 7W output. The 120mm minimum void depth requirement means the bracket suits most residential ceiling constructions with joist depths of 150mm or greater.

The bracket measures 77mm in length, 62.5mm in height and 22mm in width, fitting snugly around the downlight body without adding significant bulk to the ceiling void. The open frame design allows airflow around the fitting while preventing insulation from collapsing into the lamp zone. Installation involves clipping the bracket onto the downlight body before pushing the assembly up into the ceiling cutout.

What does IC-rated mean?

IC stands for insulation contact. An IC-rated bracket allows the downlight to be installed in direct contact with thermal insulation without creating a fire risk or overheating, which is required by Building Regulations in most insulated ceiling installations.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

A minimum 120mm void depth is required between the ceiling surface and the underside of the joists or insulation layer. This allows the bracket to sit around the downlight body with sufficient clearance.

Can I use this bracket with higher-wattage lamps?

The bracket is rated for LED lamps up to 7W. Using higher-wattage lamps may cause overheating and void the warranty, as the thermal barrier is designed for the heat output of a 7W LED.
