Description

The Knightsbridge FR600 is a square fire hood measuring 620 x 620 x 200mm (external), designed to provide 60-minute fire protection for MRB, MRD and MRE modular recessed ceiling fittings. Constructed from intumescent material that expands under heat to seal gaps and slow fire spread, the hood creates a barrier between the void above the ceiling and the room below.

Installed in commercial, industrial and residential ceiling voids where recessed luminaires are fitted into fire-rated ceilings, the hood maintains the ceiling's structural fire rating by containing combustion within the void for up to 60 minutes. The 220mm minimum void requirement accommodates the hood depth plus clearance above the recessed fitting. Internal support rods and bulldog-style clips hold the hood in position over the fitting without requiring separate fixing points to the ceiling structure.

The intumescent material is lightweight and flexible before exposure to heat, making the hood easier to handle during installation than rigid alternatives. The 620mm external dimension accommodates modular recessed fittings with standard 600mm mounting centres, sitting flush around the fitting perimeter. The hood does not provide acoustic attenuation, only fire protection.

What fittings is this fire hood compatible with?

The FR600 is designed for Knightsbridge MRB, MRD and MRE modular recessed luminaires with 600mm mounting centres. The 620mm external dimension provides clearance around standard 600mm recessed ceiling panels.

What fire rating does it provide?

The hood is rated for 60 minutes of fire protection. The intumescent material expands when exposed to heat above approximately 120°C, forming a seal that slows fire spread through the ceiling void.

What ceiling void depth is required?

A minimum void depth of 220mm is needed to accommodate the 200mm hood height plus clearance above the recessed fitting. Shallower voids cannot safely house this hood.

Does it provide acoustic insulation?

No. The FR600 provides fire protection only and is not acoustically rated. If acoustic attenuation is required, a separate acoustic barrier will be needed alongside the fire hood.
