Fia Small Mango Wood Bench - Natural

A dining bench 180cm long, a single mango wood plank 38cm deep carried at 45cm off the floor on two black iron legs. Each leg is flat bar bent into a splayed trapezoid that narrows towards the seat, and both are set in from the ends so the plank runs on past them. The wood is left pale under a water-based sealant, with the grain and the knots showing through it.

At 180cm long and 38cm deep the bench runs along one side of a dining table rather than standing on its own, and its 45cm seat height sits at the usual height for a dining chair. The legs are set in from the ends, so the plank overhangs them and the bench pushes under a table without the feet meeting the table legs. A pair draws up to a table from the same range.

The seat is mango wood and the legs are iron, finished black. Mango is grown first for its fruit and felled for timber only once the trees have stopped bearing, which is what puts the wood into use at all. Every plank takes the finish differently, so the tone and the run of the grain vary from bench to bench. Fia runs to a larger bench at 220cm, two dining tables and a desk.
